How Howls Alert™ Lost & Found works
Howls Alert™ is the free lost-and-found service on PuppyHowls, the PuppyReports™ dog community. One report about a missing or found dog creates a local alert for dog lovers nearby, a Lost & Found post on PuppyHowls, a marker on the live map, a shareable card and a printable flyer with a QR code that opens the alert.
Public alerts show only the general area where a dog was last seen or found, never the exact spot. Sightings and messages go to the person who posted the alert through PuppyHowls secure messaging, so nobody has to publish a phone number or home address.
If your dog is missing
- Sign in with a free PuppyHowls account and open My Dogs.
- Choose your dog and report it missing: add the last-seen area and time, recent photos, and details such as collar, microchip and temperament.
- Share the alert and print the QR flyer. Neighbors can send sightings from the alert page, and you can message anyone who says they have your dog.
- When your dog is home, mark the alert reunited so everyone who helped sees the good news.
If you found a dog
Open I Found a Dog, add a photo, the place and time you found the dog, and what the dog looks like. You can search open missing-dog alerts for possible matches without an account; posting a found-dog alert takes a free account. The exact location stays private by default.
See public lost and found alerts
Open lost and found alerts appear as markers on the PuppyReports Nearby map. Tap a marker to see the dog, the approximate area and the alert page, where you can send a sighting.
Reunion tips
- Do not chase a lost dog. Stay calm, keep your distance, note the direction it went and send a sighting.
- Ask a vet clinic or shelter to scan a found dog for a microchip.
- Never send money, gift cards or verification codes to anyone before a reunion. Unsure about someone? Run WatchDog™.
