About Yorkshire Terrier Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Yorkshire Terrier, developed in 19th‑century England as a fearless ratter and now in the Toy Group, is a small, spirited yet affectionate companion with moderate energy that enjoys daily walks and play. Typically under 7 pounds, Yorkies have a fine, silky blue and tan coat, erect ears, and a confident, alert expression. Their long coat needs consistent care, daily brushing or regular trims, to prevent mats; they shed very little, drool minimally, and are often considered hypoallergenic. Intelligent but sometimes headstrong, they benefit from gentle, positive training and mental stimulation. Common health considerations include dental disease, knee problems, a delicate windpipe, low blood sugar in tiny puppies, and certain liver issues, so routine veterinary care and good oral hygiene are important.

  4. Can I visit, meet the parents, and see where the puppies are raised?
  5. Do you provide a written health guarantee and vaccination records?

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.). Always review current requirements with your breed’s parent club for your jurisdiction. Last reviewed: 2026-05-02.
