About Xoloitzcuintli Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Xoloitzcuintli, originating in Mexico, is an ancient breed dating back over 3,000 years and revered by the Aztecs as a sacred guide to the afterlife, now classified in the AKC Non Sporting Group. Available in Toy, Miniature, and Standard sizes, Standards stand 18-23 inches and weigh 30-55 pounds, with hairless and coated varieties both accepted. The hairless requires sunscreen in summer, warm coats in winter, and gentle bathing to maintain smooth skin, while coated Xolos need only weekly brushing. Calm, loyal, alert, and reserved with strangers, they bond deeply with family and tolerate other pets when socialized early. Moderate daily exercise and mental engagement keep this intelligent, primitive breed content in attentive households.
