About Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a medium sporting breed developed in the late 19th century by Eduard K. Korthals in the Netherlands and France for versatile hunting, excelling at pointing and retrieving on land and in water. Affectionate, eager, and sensitive, they bond closely with family, are generally good with children, and do best with positive training and plenty of daily activity. Typical size is about 20-24 inches tall and 45-70 pounds, with a distinctive harsh, weather resistant wiry coat, pronounced eyebrows and beard, and steel gray coloring with brown markings. Grooming is moderate: brush weekly, occasionally have the coat hand stripped to maintain texture, bathe as needed, and keep ears clean; shedding is moderate and they are not considered hypoallergenic. High energy means they require vigorous exercise and mental stimulation every day. Common health concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, certain eye disorders, ear infections, and a possible risk of bloat; responsible breeders screen hips and eyes.
