About Welsh Springer Spaniel Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Welsh Springer Spaniel, developed in Wales as a versatile gundog for flushing and retrieving, is a medium sized Sporting/Gundog breed prized for its affectionate, biddable temperament and slightly reserved nature with strangers. Compact and athletic with a dense, weather resistant red and white coat and long, pendulous ears, it has high energy and needs daily vigorous exercise and engaging training. Grooming is moderate, weekly brushing, routine ear care, and nail trims help manage its moderate shedding. It is not hypoallergenic. Typically 35-55 pounds and about 17-19 inches tall, it’s a sturdy yet sensitive companion; common health concerns include hip dysplasia, eye conditions (such as cataracts or glaucoma), epilepsy in some lines, and ear infections.
