About Tibetan Mastiff Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Tibetan Mastiff, originating in Tibet as a livestock and property guardian, is a large Working Group breed known for its independence, calm confidence, and strong protective instincts; adults typically stand 24, 26+ inches and weigh 80, 150+ pounds, with a massive head, deep chest, plumed tail, and a dense double coat that forms a lionlike mane in males. Aloof with strangers yet devoted to family, it suits experienced owners and benefits from early socialization, consistent training, a secure yard, and moderate daily exercise; it may bark at night due to its guardian heritage. Grooming is moderate with weekly brushing and heavier sessions during its seasonal shed; shedding is otherwise relatively low, and drooling is usually minimal. Not hypoallergenic. Common health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, thyroid disease, eye issues, and bloat; maintaining a healthy weight and regular veterinary checkups are recommended.
