About Swedish Vallhund Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Swedish Vallhund, originating in Sweden and known as a Viking era cattle herder, is a small to medium member of the Herding Group prized for its alert, friendly, and energetic nature. Compact and sturdy with a low, long body, erect ears, and a weather resistant double coat in wolfish shades, it often has a naturally short or full tail and typically stands about 11-14 inches tall and weighs 20-35 pounds. With moderate energy, it needs daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation, and can be vocal and watchful, making a capable family watchdog. Grooming is moderate, expect heavy seasonal shedding and weekly brushing, and the breed is not hypoallergenic. Generally healthy, it can be prone to hip dysplasia and inherited eye diseases such as progressive retinal atrophy, with occasional patellar luxation; regular vet checks, weight management, and responsible breeding help reduce risks.
