About Sussex Spaniel Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Sussex Spaniel, developed in 18th century Sussex, England as a slow, steady flushing gundog for dense cover, belongs to the Sporting Group and is a medium sized, low energy companion typically standing 13-15 inches tall and weighing about 35-45 pounds. Recognized for its long, low build and rich golden liver coat with feathered ears, it is affectionate, gentle, and even tempered, making a loyal family dog that thrives in a calm home. Grooming is moderate to high: brush several times a week to control shedding and prevent mats, trim feathering as needed, and keep the ears clean and dry; routine nail and dental care are also important. Daily walks and light play meet their exercise needs. They are not considered hypoallergenic, shedding at a moderate level. Common health considerations include hip dysplasia, ear infections, eye problems, and back issues related to their long backs; keeping them lean and limiting jumping can help.
