About Sloughi Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Sloughi, or Arabian Greyhound, is a medium to large hound from North Africa (notably Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya) developed as a swift sighthound for hunting hare and gazelle; today it belongs to the Hound Group and is prized for its noble, elegant look and quiet, devoted nature. Typically reserved with strangers yet affectionate with family, the Sloughi is sensitive and independent, with moderate energy that benefits from daily runs in a secure area and careful socialization; a strong prey drive means supervision around small pets. Its short, fine coat sheds lightly, drools little, and needs minimal care beyond occasional brushing and bathing, plus nail and dental upkeep; the breed is not hypoallergenic and may need a coat in cold weather and soft bedding for its lean frame. Hallmark physical traits include a deep chest, long legs, and a smooth, athletic build in sandy to fawn shades (often with black mask or brindle). Generally healthy, the Sloughi can be prone to eye conditions such as progressive retinal atrophy, bloat (GDV) due to a deep chest, and heightened sensitivity to certain anesthetics; routine veterinary screening and maintaining a lean, conditioned body help support long term health.
