About Schipperke Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Schipperke, originating in Belgium, is a small spitz type breed in the Non Sporting Group historically prized as a barge watchdog, ratter, and farm companion along Flemish canals, earning the nickname 'little captain.' Confident, alert, and endlessly curious, they bond closely with their families while remaining wary of strangers and quick to sound the alarm. Typically standing 10-13 inches tall and weighing 10-16 pounds, they wear a distinctive black double coat with a thick ruff, cape, and culottes that requires weekly brushing and more frequent attention during seasonal shedding. High energy and mischievous, they need daily vigorous exercise and mental stimulation, and suit active families who appreciate a bold, spirited companion.
