About Samoyed Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Samoyed is a medium to large Working Group breed from Siberia, originally developed by the Samoyedic (Nenets) people to herd reindeer, pull sleds, and keep families warm; today it’s celebrated for its friendly, affectionate nature, intelligence, and alert, sometimes vocal demeanor. Recognizable by its thick, weatherproof white (sometimes cream or biscuit) double coat, erect ears, plumed tail, and trademark “Sammy smile,” it typically weighs 35-65 pounds and needs ample daily exercise and consistent, positive training. Grooming is intensive due to heavy year round shedding with seasonal blowouts, requiring frequent brushing and regular bathing with thorough drying; drooling is usually low, and the breed is not considered hypoallergenic and can be sensitive to heat. Common health considerations include hip dysplasia, inherited eye conditions such as cataracts and retinal degeneration, hypothyroidism, and occasional kidney issues; responsible breeders screen for these, and maintaining a healthy weight and good dental care supports long term well being.

  3. What is your return policy if the dog cannot remain in my home?
  4. Can I visit, meet the parents, and see where the puppies are raised?
  5. Do you provide a written health guarantee and vaccination records?

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.).
