About Saluki Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Saluki is an ancient sighthound from the Middle East, developed to course fast game like gazelle across open desert; today it’s in the Hound Group and is a tall, lean, medium to large dog with a deep chest, long legs, and either a smooth coat or feathered variety with silky fringes on the ears and tail. Gentle and dignified, it is affectionate with family yet reserved with strangers, independent, sensitive, and possesses a strong prey drive. Exercise needs are moderate but include daily opportunities to run in a secure area plus regular walks, along with calm, positive training and a safely fenced yard. Grooming is generally easy, occasional brushing for smooth coats and a bit more for feathering, with minimal drooling but high shedding at times; it is not hypoallergenic. Care tips include protecting their thin skin and low body fat from cold and hard surfaces, providing soft bedding, and managing weight carefully. Potential health concerns include bloat (a dangerous stomach condition), certain eye problems such as progressive retinal atrophy, heart issues, hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, and sensitivity to some anesthetics.

- What is your return policy if the dog cannot remain in my home?
