About Russian Toy Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Russian Toy, originating in Russia, is a tiny companion breed in the Toy Group developed from English Toy Terriers to serve as a refined lapdog and alert watchdog for Russian aristocracy. Lively, affectionate, and devoted, they bond intensely with their people and do well with gentle families, singles, and seniors. Typically 8-11 inches tall and 3-6 pounds, they come in smooth and long coated varieties in black and tan, red, brown and tan, or blue and tan. Grooming is easy: weekly brushing (more for longhaired dogs with feathered ears), routine dental care, and regular nail trims. Short daily walks and indoor play meet their exercise needs. Health concerns include patellar luxation, dental disease, progressive retinal atrophy, and fragile bones prone to fractures.
