About Pyrenean Shepherd Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Pyrenean Shepherd is a small to medium herding breed from the French Pyrenees, developed to move sheep and still classified in the Herding Group; typically lean and athletic, it stands roughly 15-21 inches and weighs about 15-30 pounds. Bright, loyal, and intensely energetic, it bonds closely with its people, can be reserved with strangers, and thrives on daily vigorous exercise, training, and mental work such as agility or herding. It comes in two natural, weather resistant coat types, rough faced (shaggier) and smooth faced (shorter), with low to moderate grooming needs; weekly brushing is usually enough, though shedding can be moderate to heavy seasonally, drooling is minimal, and the breed is not hypoallergenic. Care should focus on ample activity, early socialization, and enrichment, while common health considerations may include hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and eye conditions such as PRA or cataracts, with a typical lifespan of 12-15 years.
