About Portuguese Podengo Pequeno Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Portuguese Podengo Pequeno, originating in Portugal, is a small primitive hound in the AKC Hound Group, historically bred to hunt rabbits in packs across rugged terrain. Standing 8-12 inches tall and weighing 9-13 pounds, this compact, wedge headed dog comes in smooth or wire coats in yellow, fawn, and black variations. Grooming is easy: weekly brushing, occasional hand stripping for wire coats, routine nail trims, and ear checks. Lively, intelligent, and affectionate, Pequenos need 45-60 minutes of daily exercise and secure fencing. They make spirited, devoted family companions who get along well with children and other dogs.
