About Plott Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Plott, also called the Plott Hound, is a medium to large American scenthound from North Carolina, developed from German boar hounds to trail and bay big game such as bear and wild boar, and is classified in the Hound Group. Brave, determined, and loyal, Plotts are affectionate with family yet independent and intensely scent driven, so early training, socialization, and secure fencing are important. They are athletic with a lean, muscular build, drop ears, and a short, smooth coat most often in brindle shades; shedding is high, drooling is low, and grooming is simple with regular brushing and routine ear care. A high energy breed, they need vigorous daily exercise and mental stimulation to thrive. Generally healthy, they may be prone to hip dysplasia, ear infections, and bloat; they are not considered hypoallergenic.
