About Pharaoh Hound Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Pharaoh Hound, originating in Malta and traditionally used to hunt rabbits, is a Hound Group breed of medium to large size (about 21-25 inches tall and 45-55 pounds) with a sleek, short, reddish tan coat and large upright ears. Friendly, affectionate, and playful yet independent, it is intelligent and highly energetic, needing daily vigorous exercise, mental enrichment, and secure fencing due to a strong prey drive. Grooming is low maintenance, weekly brushing and occasional baths suffice, with moderate shedding and very low drooling; the breed is not hypoallergenic and can be sensitive to cold because of its thin coat. Generally healthy, but potential concerns include bloat in deep chested dogs, hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and dental issues, so routine vet care, a lean diet, and regular activity are important; many owners also note its charming “smile” and tendency to blush when excited.
