About Pekingese Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Pekingese, an ancient Toy Group breed from China, was developed as a royal companion and alert little watchdog, known for its dignified, loyal, and sometimes independent nature. Small and sturdy at roughly 6-9 inches tall and about 7-14 pounds, it features a flat face, large expressive eyes, and a profuse, lion like coat. A low energy breed, it thrives on short, leisurely walks and indoor play; take care in heat and avoid overexertion due to its brachycephalic (flat faced) build. Grooming is high maintenance: frequent brushing to prevent mats, periodic baths, and regular eye, ear, skin fold, nail, and dental care; they do shed and are not hypoallergenic. Common health concerns include breathing difficulties and heat sensitivity, eye injuries and dry eye, back issues (intervertebral disc disease), patellar luxation, and dental crowding, making thoughtful care and routine veterinary checks especially important.

Before You Choose a Pekingese Puppy
- Can I see health screening documentation for both parents?
- Are the parents registered with the AKC or relevant breed club?
- What is your return policy if the dog cannot remain in my home?
- Can I visit, meet the parents, and see where the puppies are raised?
- Do you provide a written health guarantee and vaccination records?
