About Norwegian Buhund Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Norwegian Buhund is a medium sized spitz from Norway, developed as an all purpose farm and herding dog and alert watchdog, and is classified in the Herding Group. Cheerful, affectionate, and highly energetic, they are smart, vocal, and eager to please, doing best with active families who can provide daily vigorous exercise and mental challenges. Compact and athletic at about 16, 18.5 inches and 26-40 pounds, they have erect ears, a curled tail, and a weather resistant double coat in wheaten or black; grooming is simple but they shed heavily seasonally, need regular brushing (especially during sheds), are low droolers, and are not hypoallergenic. Generally healthy, they can be prone to hip dysplasia, inherited eye problems such as cataracts, and epilepsy; early socialization, consistent training (including managing barking), and routine vet screening help them thrive.
