About Norrbottenspets Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Norrbottenspets, originating in northern Sweden and Finland, is a small hunting spitz in the AKC Foundation Stock Service developed to hunt forest game like grouse and squirrel by bark pointing in harsh Scandinavian climates. Nearly extinct after World War II, the breed was carefully revived from remnant farm stock. Standing 15-18 inches tall and weighing 18-30 pounds, they are compact and agile with a dense double coat, prick ears, and a curled tail, commonly white with red or yellow markings. Grooming is easy: weekly brushing, with heavier shedding twice yearly. Alert, fearless, and affectionate, they bond closely with family but need substantial daily exercise and mental stimulation to stay content.
