About Multiple Breeds Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

Multiple Breeds refers to dogs of mixed heritage, often called mixed breeds or mutts, whose ancestry draws from two or more distinct breeds or lineages without a fixed pedigree. Found worldwide, these dogs vary enormously: heights can range from 8 to 30 inches and weights from 10 to 100+ pounds, with coats that may be short and smooth, medium and wiry, or long and silky, requiring grooming from a weekly brush to several sessions per week. Temperaments are equally diverse but often balanced, adaptable, and affectionate, suiting active families, singles, and seniors alike with moderate daily exercise of 30-60 minutes. Common health concerns include hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, dental disease, allergies, and ear infections, though hybrid vigor often reduces inherited disease risk.

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.). Always review current requirements with your breed’s parent club for your jurisdiction. Last reviewed: 2026-05-02.
