About Mudi Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Mudi, a medium sized herding breed from Hungary, was developed as a versatile farm dog for driving and guarding livestock and is energetic, intelligent, and loyal, though often reserved with strangers. Typically 15-19 inches tall and 18-30 pounds, it has an athletic build, erect ears, and a wavy to curly coat in various colors (including merle). Grooming needs are low to moderate, weekly brushing and seasonal de shedding suffice, shedding is moderate, drooling is low. It is not hypoallergenic. This high energy breed thrives with daily vigorous exercise and mental work (herding, agility, obedience) plus early socialization and consistent training. Common health concerns can include hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and epilepsy, and the breed is classified in the Herding Group with an average lifespan of about 12-14 years.
