About Lowchen Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Löwchen, or Little Lion Dog, originated in continental Europe where it graced the laps of Renaissance nobility and was traditionally clipped in a distinctive lion trim. Classified by the AKC in the Non Sporting Group, this small companion stands 12-14 inches tall and weighs 12-18 pounds, sporting a long, wavy, non shedding coat that requires brushing several times a week and periodic professional grooming to maintain the signature cut. Cheerful, affectionate, and outgoing, Löwchens are playful yet adaptable, doing well with families, children, and other pets. Moderate daily walks and interactive play keep them happy, and their devoted, people oriented nature makes them thrive as close household companions.

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.).
