About Komondor Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Komondor is a large Hungarian livestock guardian bred to protect flocks, known for its calm, independent, and strongly protective temperament paired with deep loyalty to family and natural wariness of strangers. Classified in the Working Group, it is a powerful dog typically 25-30 inches tall and 80-120 pounds, instantly recognizable by its long, white corded coat that insulates and camouflages. Energy needs are moderate, but this breed requires early, consistent socialization, firm yet patient training, secure fencing, and an experienced owner comfortable with guardian instincts. Grooming is intensive: cords must be formed and kept clean, separated, and thoroughly dried after bathing; the coat sheds little but traps dirt and debris, and the breed is not considered hypoallergenic. Common health considerations include hip dysplasia, bloat, skin or ear issues if the coat isn’t properly maintained, and possible heat sensitivity due to the heavy coat.
