About Jindo Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Jindo, originating on Jindo Island in South Korea, is a medium sized spitz type hunting companion recognized in the AKC Foundation Stock Service and celebrated as a Korean national treasure. Historically used to hunt deer, boar, and small game in packs, Jindos are famously loyal, intelligent, independent, and reserved with strangers while devoted to one family. Males stand 19.5-21 inches and 35-50 pounds, females 16.5-19 inches and 30-45 pounds. The double coat, in white, fawn, red, black, black and tan, brindle, or gray, sheds heavily twice yearly and needs weekly brushing. They require substantial daily exercise, secure fencing, and early socialization, thriving with experienced owners rather than novice households.

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.). Always review current requirements with your breed’s parent club for your jurisdiction. Last reviewed: 2026-05-02.
