About Japanese Chin Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Japanese Chin is a small Toy Group companion breed with roots in ancient China and refinement in Japan as a favored lap dog of nobility; calm and cat like, it is affectionate, charming, and sensitive, thriving on close companionship and gentle play with low daily exercise needs. Distinctive features include a short, broad muzzle, large expressive eyes, a plumed tail carried over the back, and a silky single coat. Regular brushing several times a week helps control its heavy shedding and prevent tangles, with routine eye and facial care recommended; it is not hypoallergenic. Typical size is 8-11 inches tall and 4-9 pounds. As a brachycephalic breed, it is prone to heat sensitivity and respiratory issues, and may also face eye injuries, patellar luxation, and dental crowding, so thoughtful handling and a cool, comfortable home are important.
