About Irish Wolfhound Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Irish Wolfhound, originating in Ireland as a sighthound bred to hunt wolves and big game, belongs to the Hound Group and is renowned as a gentle giant with a calm, patient, and affectionate nature that’s typically friendly with people and other dogs. Extremely tall and heavy (often 30-35 inches at the shoulder and well over 100 pounds), they have a rough, wiry coat and a low overall energy level, preferring relaxed daily walks and ample space over intense exercise. Grooming is moderate, weekly brushing with occasional tidying, shedding and drooling are moderate. They are not hypoallergenic. Common health concerns include heart disease, bone cancer, bloat (life‑threatening stomach twisting), and hip and elbow problems; careful growth management, soft bedding, and gentle training are recommended.
