About Hug Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Hug, a cross between the Siberian Husky and the Pug, is a small to medium companion dog not recognized by the AKC but registered through designer organizations such as the ACHC and IDCR. Adults typically stand 14-20 inches and weigh 30-60 pounds depending on which parent dominates. Coats vary by generation (F1, F1B, multigen), ranging from the Husky's dense double coat to a shorter, Pug like coat, all shedding heavily. Expect a playful, stubborn, people oriented dog with the Husky's energy and vocal nature paired with the Pug's affectionate clowning. Health concerns inherited from both parents appear in the health panel. Best suited to experienced owners with time for daily exercise and firm, patient training.

Parent Breeds

This is a designer cross combining: Husky + Pug. As a mixed breed cross, individual puppies may inherit traits from either parent breed in varying degrees. Health testing requirements and temperament expectations should be evaluated for both parent breeds.

When researching Hug breeders, ask for documentation of health screening on both parents. Ethical breeders test for breed appropriate conditions through OFA, PennHIP, or breed club specified DNA panels before breeding.

Before You Choose a Hug Puppy

Questions to ask any Hug breeder
  1. Can I see health screening documentation for both parents?
  2. Are the parents registered with the AKC or relevant breed club?
  3. What is your return policy if the dog cannot remain in my home?
  4. Can I visit, meet the parents, and see where the puppies are raised?
  5. Do you provide a written health guarantee and vaccination records?

Screened Hug breeders on PuppyReports have submitted documentation, responded to the platform, and maintain an active PuppyReports™ Card. Research any breeder before you make a commitment.

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.). Always review current requirements with your breed’s parent club for your jurisdiction. Last reviewed: 2026-05-02.
