About Greyhound Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Greyhound is an ancient sighthound from the Hound Group, originally bred for coursing game by sight and later for racing, known today as a gentle, affectionate companion with a calm indoor demeanor and moderate energy needs. A large, tall, and very lean dog with a deep chest and short, sleek coat, adults typically stand around 27-30 inches and weigh 60-70 pounds. They thrive on daily walks plus occasional chances to sprint in a securely fenced area, and their strong prey drive means they should stay leashed outside safe enclosures. Grooming is low maintenance with a quick weekly brush, occasional baths, and routine nail and dental care; they shed moderately and drool very little, are not hypoallergenic, and benefit from soft bedding and a coat in cold weather due to their thin skin and low body fat. Common health considerations include bloat (life threatening stomach swelling), osteosarcoma, hypothyroidism, dental disease, arthritis as they age, and general sensitivity to extreme temperatures; responsible breeding and regular vet care help manage risks.

Before You Choose a Greyhound Puppy
- Can I see health screening documentation for both parents?
- Are the parents registered with the AKC or relevant breed club?
- What is your return policy if the dog cannot remain in my home?
- Can I visit, meet the parents, and see where the puppies are raised?
- Do you provide a written health guarantee and vaccination records?
