About Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, originating in France, is a medium sized scenthound in the Hound Group developed to hunt hare, rabbit, and other game across the rugged Vendeen countryside. Bold, independent, and cheerfully vocal, they are happy pack dogs who bond closely with family and generally do well with children and other dogs. Typically 15.5-18 inches tall and 40-45 pounds, they carry a tousled, harsh wire coat with bushy eyebrows and beard that needs weekly brushing, occasional hand stripping, and routine ear cleaning to prevent infection. They require ample daily exercise, secure fencing, and patient, consistent training, as their nose and stamina can lead them astray.
