About Glen of Imaal Terrier Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Glen of Imaal Terrier, originating in the rugged Wicklow Mountains of Ireland, is a small working breed in the Terrier Group developed to hunt badgers and foxes and to serve as a versatile farm dog. Calmer and less vocal than most terriers, Glens are courageous, patient, and devoted to their families while retaining bold working instincts around small animals. Standing 12.5-14 inches tall and weighing 32-40 pounds, they are sturdy and low slung with a medium length harsh double coat in blue, wheaten, or brindle. Grooming is moderate: brush weekly, hand strip several times a year to preserve texture, and attend to ears, teeth, and nails routinely. They need moderate daily exercise and suit active families, tolerating other pets when well socialized.
