About Field Spaniel Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Field Spaniel, originating in England as a versatile Sporting Group gundog, is a medium sized, adaptable companion with a gentle, sensitive temperament and steady, moderate energy; typically around 17-18 inches tall and 35-50 pounds, it has a glossy, slightly wavy coat with feathering and long, pendulous ears. Bred to work calmly in the field, it enjoys daily walks, play, and training that is positive and consistent rather than harsh. Grooming is moderate and adaptable: weekly brushing to manage its low shedding, occasional tidy trims, and attentive ear care to prevent infections, plus routine nail and dental care. Not considered hypoallergenic, the breed may be prone to ear infections, hip dysplasia, and some eye issues, so regular veterinary checkups and weight management are important.
