About English Foxhound Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The English Foxhound, developed in England as a pack hunting scent hound for tracking foxes, is a medium to large Hound Group breed known for its friendly, sociable, and even tempered nature with strong pack instincts and a musical bay. Athletic and well muscled with long legs, a deep chest, drop ears, and a short, dense coat, adults are often around 24 inches tall and 60-75 pounds. This is a high energy dog that needs vigorous daily exercise, a secure yard, and patient, consistent training, as their strong nose can make recall challenging; they thrive with companionship and mental stimulation. Grooming is low maintenance, regular brushing, occasional baths, and routine ear care, with low drooling and generally light to moderate shedding; they are not hypoallergenic. Generally healthy, they can be prone to hip dysplasia, ear infections, bloat in deep chested dogs, and weight gain if under exercised, so regular vet checks and weight management are important.
