About Dogue de Bordeaux Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as the French Mastiff, is a large to giant purebred from France developed to guard homes and estates and perform heavy duty work; it belongs to the Working Group and typically stands 23-27 inches tall and often exceeds 100 pounds. Calm, devoted, and courageous with low overall energy, it bonds closely with family and is naturally protective, doing best with early socialization and steady, positive training. This powerful, broad chested dog has a very large, wrinkled head, a short muzzle, and a short fawn coat (often with a darker mask), and is a heavy drooler. Grooming is simple, weekly brushing to manage moderate shedding plus regular wiping and drying of facial folds and drool, along with routine nail, ear, and dental care. Daily but gentle exercise is important, and care is needed in hot weather due to heat sensitivity; the breed is not hypoallergenic. Common health concerns include joint problems (hip and elbow dysplasia), bloat, heart issues, breathing and heat intolerance, skin fold infections, and some eye conditions.
