About Cocker Spaniel Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Cocker Spaniel is a small to medium Sporting Group dog originally bred in England to flush and retrieve woodcock, later cherished as a companion in both English and American varieties. Friendly, affectionate, and eager to please, it has a moderate energy level and thrives with daily walks, play, and gentle, positive training. Compact and sturdy with a silky, feathered coat, long hanging ears, and expressive eyes, most stand about 13.5-17 inches and weigh 20-34 pounds. Grooming needs are high: frequent brushing, regular trims, and routine ear cleaning are important to prevent mats and ear issues; shedding is generally low to moderate, and the breed is not hypoallergenic. Common health concerns include ear infections, eye problems such as cataracts and glaucoma, hip or knee issues, skin allergies, and hypothyroidism.

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.).
