About Chinese Crested Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Chinese Crested is a small Toy Group companion breed believed to have traveled with Chinese seafarers as affectionate shipboard ratters, known today for an alert, gentle, and sensitive temperament. Coming in two varieties, hairless (with a silky crest, “socks,” and plume tail) and powderpuff (with a full soft coat), they are light, delicate, and generally low energy, doing well with short daily walks and indoor play. Grooming needs are sensitive: hairless dogs require regular bathing, moisturizers, and sun/cold protection, while powderpuffs need frequent brushing to prevent mats; both benefit from consistent dental care. Shedding is moderate overall, and while the hairless option may be easier for some allergy sufferers, the breed is not truly hypoallergenic. Common health considerations include skin sensitivities, dental problems (including missing or weak teeth), patellar luxation, eye issues, and Legg Calvé-Perthes disease, so routine veterinary care and gentle handling are important.
