About Chihuahua Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Chihuahua, a tiny companion breed from Mexico in the Toy Group, is known for its bold, spirited (“sassy”) nature and deep devotion to its people. Small and delicate at 5-8 inches tall and usually under 6 pounds, it comes in smooth or long coats with shedding that ranges from moderate to high for its size; it is not hypoallergenic and drooling is minimal, with grooming generally light, weekly brushing for smooth coats and a bit more for long coats. Despite their size they have high energy and thrive on daily play, short walks, and mental enrichment; they are sensitive to cold and need gentle handling around children and larger dogs. Routine care should emphasize dental hygiene, nail trims, and clean ears and eyes, plus early socialization and training to manage barking and bossiness. Common health concerns include dental disease, loose kneecaps, heart issues, collapsed windpipe, and some eye problems. They are long lived when well cared for.

Before You Choose a Chihuahua Puppy
- Can I see health screening documentation for both parents?
- Are the parents registered with the AKC or relevant breed club?
- What is your return policy if the dog cannot remain in my home?
- Can I visit, meet the parents, and see where the puppies are raised?
- Do you provide a written health guarantee and vaccination records?
Screened Chihuahua breeders on PuppyReports have submitted documentation, responded to the platform, and maintain an active PuppyReports™ Card. Research any breeder before you make a commitment.
