About Cardigan Welsh Corgi Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Cardigan Welsh Corgi, an ancient herding breed from Wales in the Herding Group, was developed to drive cattle and watch over farms; today it’s a loyal, intelligent, and affectionate family companion that can be reserved with strangers but eager to please. Compact, long, and low with a full tail, large upright ears, and a weather resistant double coat in colors like red, brindle, black with points, or blue merle, it’s a small to medium dog about 10-12 inches tall and 25-38 pounds. Energy needs are moderate, so daily walks, play, and mental games suit them well, along with consistent training and early socialization. Grooming is moderate: brush regularly to control year round shedding that increases seasonally; they are not hypoallergenic and typically have low drool. Keep them lean and avoid frequent jumping to protect their back, and watch for common concerns such as back problems, hip and joint issues, and inherited eye or nerve conditions, as well as a tendency to gain weight.
