About Cane Corso Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Cane Corso, originating in Italy as a powerful guardian and farm dog, belongs to the Working Group and is prized for protecting home and property while being devoted to family. This large, muscular breed typically stands about 23.5, 27.5 inches tall and weighs roughly 90-120 pounds, with a broad head and a short, dense coat commonly seen in black, gray, fawn, or brindle. Temperament is confident, loyal, and naturally protective; they are affectionate with their people but reserved with strangers and do best with experienced owners who provide early, consistent training, thorough socialization, and a secure environment. Energy level is moderate, requiring daily walks, structured play, and mental stimulation, after which they tend to relax indoors. Grooming needs are moderate: weekly brushing, seasonal heavier shedding, and routine nail, ear, and dental care; drooling can be moderate. They are not hypoallergenic. Common health concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, eye problems, bloat, and some heart conditions, so maintaining a healthy weight and regular veterinary checkups is important.

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.). Always review current requirements with your breed’s parent club for your jurisdiction. Last reviewed: 2026-05-02.
