About Borzoi Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Borzoi, originating in Russia as a sighthound developed for coursing and hunting wolves, is a large Hound Group breed (often 60-105 pounds) known for a calm, quiet, and independent temperament. Tall and graceful with a long, narrow head and a silky, flowing coat, they have moderate energy, content with daily walks and occasional sprints in a secure area, and are typically relaxed indoors. Their long coat benefits from brushing several times a week and extra care during seasonal shedding; they are not hypoallergenic. Gentle, patient training and early socialization suit their sensitive nature and strong chase instinct, and off leash time is best limited to safely enclosed spaces. Common health considerations include bloat (stomach twisting), certain heart issues, bone cancer, low thyroid function, and sensitivity to some medications and anesthesia seen in sighthounds.
