The Bohemian Shepherd, or Chodsky Pes, originated in the Czech Republic's Chodsko region, where it guarded borders and herded livestock for centuries. Recognized by the AKC in the Foundation Stock Service, this medium herding breed stands 19-22 inches tall and weighs 35-55 pounds, with a weather resistant double coat of longer black and tan fur that benefits from weekly brushing and more during seasonal shedding. Intelligent, loyal, and trainable, they bond closely with family and do well with children and other pets. They need at least an hour of daily exercise and thrive with active households offering work or structured play.
