About Boerboel Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Boerboel, a large South African farm guardian from the Working Group, was developed to protect homesteads and livestock and is known for its confident, devoted, and highly protective nature; with proper early socialization and firm, consistent training, they are steady family companions but reserved with strangers and can be dog selective. Powerfully built with a short, dense coat and a black masked face, they are typically very large (often 24-27 inches at the shoulder and 110-200 pounds), have moderate energy, and do best with daily exercise, clear structure, and a secure yard. Grooming is low maintenance, weekly brushing, routine nail and dental care, and shedding is moderate; they are not hypoallergenic and may drool, though generally less than some other mastiffs. Common health concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat (gastric torsion), and occasional eye or heart issues, so responsible breeding, weight management, and regular veterinary checkups are important. This is a powerful breed best suited to experienced owners who can meet its training, socialization, and space needs.

- Can I see health screening documentation for both parents?
- Are the parents registered with the AKC or relevant breed club?
- What is your return policy if the dog cannot remain in my home?
- Can I visit, meet the parents, and see where the puppies are raised?
- Do you provide a written health guarantee and vaccination records?
