About Bloodhound Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Bloodhound is a large Hound Group breed originating in medieval Europe (notably Belgium and France) and later refined in England, developed to trail human scent and now prized for search and rescue and tracking work. Gentle, affectionate, and patient with families yet independent and single‑minded on a trail, it benefits from consistent, reward‑based training, secure fencing, and moderate daily exercise that engages its powerful nose. Typical size is 23-27 inches tall and about 80-110 pounds. Its short, low‑shedding coat needs weekly brushing and gentle care of the long ears and skin folds; expect heavy drooling but otherwise straightforward grooming. Common health concerns include bloat, hip and elbow dysplasia, ear infections, skin fold irritation, and eye issues; the breed is not hypoallergenic.
