About Belgian Tervuren Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Belgian Tervuren, one of Belgium’s versatile herding shepherds, was developed for livestock work and today excels in obedience, protection sports, and search and rescue thanks to its sharp intelligence, sensitivity, and strong work ethic; it is loyal with family, watchful and reserved with strangers, and thrives on structured training and daily tasks. A medium to large, athletic dog (males about 24-26 in., 55-75 lb), it has a long, double coat in rich fawn to mahogany with a black overlay and mask. Grooming involves brushing several times a week and more during seasonal sheds; the breed is not hypoallergenic. High exercise and mental stimulation are essential. Common health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, epilepsy, eye issues (such as PRA), thyroid disease, and bloat; responsible screening and a healthy weight help reduce risks.
