About Belgian Malinois Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Belgian Malinois, a medium to large breed in the Herding Group from Belgium, was developed to drive and guard livestock and is now renowned for police, military, and protection work. Highly intelligent with very high energy and an intense work ethic, it is loyal and alert, often reserved with strangers, and best for experienced, active owners who can provide daily vigorous exercise, advanced training, and ample mental stimulation. Typically 22-26 inches tall and about 55-75 pounds, it is athletic and agile with a short, dense, weather resistant fawn to mahogany coat and black mask; grooming is low to moderate, with regular brushing to manage year round shedding and heavier seasonal molts, and drooling is minimal. Not hypoallergenic, the breed benefits from structured jobs and secure space, and may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, certain eye conditions, and bloat, so routine health screening and maintaining a lean, fit condition are recommended.
