About Beauceron Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts

The Beauceron is a large, athletic herding and guarding breed from France, developed as a versatile farm dog to move and protect livestock. Part of the Herding Group, it typically stands about 24-27 inches at the shoulder and has a short, weather resistant double coat in black and tan or harlequin, with distinctive double rear dewclaws. Intelligent, loyal, and confident yet reserved with strangers, it thrives with experienced owners who provide early socialization, consistent training, and vigorous daily exercise and mental stimulation. Grooming is moderate, weekly brushing with heavier seasonal shedding, and the breed is not hypoallergenic. Common health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia and bloat (gastric dilatation volvulus), so responsible breeding, weight management, and routine veterinary care are important.

About these recommendations. PuppyReports surfaces the basic health screening recommendations for each breed in accordance with the principles established by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) program. The OFA, working with each breed’s primary US parent club, sets the recommended testing list per breed. Recommendations may vary by country and region (US OFA CHIC, European FCI, UK Kennel Club, Australian National Kennel Council, etc.).
