About Azawakh Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Azawakh, originating in the Sahel region of West Africa (Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso), is a lean sighthound in the AKC Hound Group, bred by the Tuareg, Fulani, and Hausa peoples to course game and guard encampments. Standing 23.5-29 inches tall and weighing 33-55 pounds, they are elegantly bony with a short, fine coat in fawn, red, brindle, and parti color variations requiring only weekly brushing and routine nail and dental care. Aloof with strangers yet deeply devoted to their people, they need substantial daily exercise including secure off leash sprints, and suit active, experienced owners with older children.
