About Alaskan Malamute Puppies, Breeders & DogFacts
The Alaskan Malamute, a large Working Group sled dog developed by the Mahlemut people of Alaska for hauling heavy loads, is powerful and sturdy with a thick, weatherproof double coat, erect ears, and a plumed tail. Affectionate and friendly yet independent and strong‑willed, Malamutes have very high energy and do best with daily vigorous exercise, structured activities like pulling or hiking, and secure spaces. They shed heavily (especially seasonally) and are not hypoallergenic; expect frequent brushing, daily during coat “blow”, occasional baths, and routine nail, ear, and dental care, plus careful heat management in warm weather. Common health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism, cataracts, and bloat; responsible breeders screen for these issues. Typical adults are large and muscular, often around 75, 85+ pounds and 23-25 inches tall.
